Audio for Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Realities
The ICSA 2019 focuses on a multidisciplinary bringing together of developers, scientists, users, and content creators of and for spatial audio systems and services. A special focus is on audio for so-called virtual, augmented, and mixed realities.
The fields of ICSA 2019 are:
- Development and scientific investigation of technical systems and services for spatial audio recording, processing and reproduction
- Creation of content for reproduction via spatial audio systems and services
- Use and application of spatial audio systems and content presentation services
- Media impact of content and spatial audio systems and services from the point of view of media science.
The ICSA 2019 is organized by VDT and TU Ilmenau with support of Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT.

A detailed overview about the time plan follows in the near future.
Call for Contributions
Contributions to all audio-related topics are welcome. You can present your work and research as oral presentations, poster presentations, workshops, and demonstrations. The contribution also includes a reviewed or non-reviewed written paper if you are interested in. The review is done with support of the Audio Engineering Society. The conference proceeding is published by VDT.
The Call for Contribution is now open.
Please download the paper templates when you are interested in submitting a paper.

Europe’s Third Student 3D Audio Production Competition
With the recent technological 3D audio revolutions, academic discussion also begins to focus on what touches us the most: the audio content, story, and aesthetics that can be conveyed by the 3D Audio Technologies. This shifts the focus of the next-generation, enthusiastic students, not only comanding the technology but also working in a more content-related style on a medium that allows for re-performing, dissemination or broadcasting.
To all students: Submit your recording now!
The submission of works ends at the end of June 2019. The nominees will be notified by the end of July 2019.
Enjoy the results of Europe’s third Student 3D Audio Production Competition during the ICSA! You can listen to the Nominee Productions and be part of the Finals of the three categories:
- Contemporary Music / Computer Music
- Audio Drama / Documentary
- Music Recording
As social part of the conference, a special concert will take place on Friday evening in the city church St. Jakobus. The concert will feature the vocal ensemble of St. Jakobuskirche and three instruments - recorder, harpsichord and the great Walcker organ. Cantor Hans-Jürgen Freitag is responsible for the direction and conception. Works by the contemporary composer Günther Berger will be heard next to music by J. S. Bach. The meditation music "Golgotha" for recorders, choir and organ by Günther Berger is of central importance. The musical treatment of the subject, especially the instrumental parts, goes beyond the usual expectations (e.g. a musical instruction: cried out into the flute pipe - blood-red, unrestrained the choir, accompanied by organ Golgotha, blood-drenched, a sea of tears). The composer combines the events of the Passion of Jesus with the complaint about the Shoah. The work, which goes under the skin and is also played to commemorate the beginning of the war 80 years ago.
