Finalist in Category 2: Audio Drama / Documentary / Soundscapes
The Bell Sounds, Yet The Sound Bells is a contribution of Johannes Ott
Original Documentation:
„The Bell Sounds, Yet The Sound Bells“ is an imaginative spatial soundscape by Johannes Ott, centered around the sound of a struck bell. In it, time seems to slow down and the enveloping character of this sound is revealed to contain a separate space of its own. The listener gets sucked in as they travel through this imaginary space. Just as they reach the sounds pulsating heart, the bell stroke reverses itself again and they arrive back in reality.
It was produced at the Immersive Audio Lab at the Tonlabor of the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg in 5th Order Ambisonics. All of its content was derived from a small number of sampled bell strokes using classical techniques of musique concrète such as editing, reversing and change of playback speed, as well as modern techniques such as granular synthesis, wave shaping distortion digital samplers and vocoders.
